S101AX-Sakura 18oz AI+ Sakura Selvedge Denim Jacket
The sakura, or cherry blossom, was introduced to Japan well over 1000 years ago, during the Nara period, and has since Sakura has since become an incredibly important symbol for Japan, its people, and their culture. As Japan's most important flower, it heralds the arrival of Spring for the Japanese, blooming all at once across the islands. To create these jeans, cherry blossoms are boiled to extract their natural pink dye, which is then used to dye the underlying weft threads, giving them a slight pink hue.
This special-edition jacket is made with Samurai's incredible 18oz AI+ Sakura selvedge denim, a variation of their industry-leading AI+ natural indigo dyed fabric. The warp yarns are blended with Samurai's own Japanese-grown cotton fibers for improved softness and texture, and are then thoroughly rope-dyed in a mixture of natural and synthetic indigo dyes, giving the denim a lovely soft natural indigo colouring, while still fading noticeably like a synthetic indigo dyed denim would. Due to the somewhat loose weave and the natural texture in the fabric, the soft pink tones of the sakura-dyed weft show through in spots, and give the denim an overall softer look that is sure to result is some really special fades.
Designed based off vintage Type I denim jackets, this garment features a vintage fit with a cropped, boxy body shape, a single spade-shaped chest pocket, and size adjuster tabs. As a Sakura denim garment, this jacket is finished with custom silver-coated iron buttons, a custom deerskin patch, and a placket and chest pocket cut on the blue and white selvedge ID.
